Its a pretty crucial aspect, If players are confused as what to do when they first start, they tend to drift off.
I think there should be a begginer quest of sorts, basicaly, you're asked to run around, collect somethings, in return your given your starter equpiment, some gold and whatnot, and shoved out into the world.
There could even be a complete newbie grouds - Maybe the Medieval Duel academy?
This means new players could go around, get into the game, and not have to worry about being slaughtered or having to do everything themselves.
I have had lots of new players getting stuck on the quest... One thought I had for the player creation was maybe you create your basic character with the race... Then you begin the game you, talking with some NPC's in the town doing little quest to choose your class or profession. Once you complete a few small quest, then you are given your profession and the modifying attributes. Now you are ready to begin the game and your journey....
Whats your thoughts...
Okay i have two ideas on this one.
1. Starting off as a race of your choosing, Going through a newbie/starter series of quests, And then once you reach x level, You get to choose your profession and you work from there.
2. Same as above, but maybe having your responses determine your profession?
For example if part of the starter quest was to go rescue someone from a forest or something, and you go there, slay some baddies, and then demand to be paid for rescuing the person, this would affect what class you become - An evil warrior type person in this case.
Would mean people wouldnt automaticaly pick a class that seems to be the most powerful. It would mean that people would become a class that best suits them.
If it isnt possible at the start, You could start off players by having them fill out a quick 'Background' section.
Just a few randomly chosen questions, That determine things like - starting stats, alignment, maybe even the class.
Just things like..
Your master made a small mistake during training one day.
Do you?
A) Point it out loudly and declare you know more then him?
B) leave an annonymous note, Raising his mistake?
C) Do nothing?
Depending on which choice you take, determines your plus or minuses
All I have to say is...
Make it optional.
There are lots of the type who would much rather figure out the game rather than going through a tutorial.
Also, just be careful with that class assignment thing. That could very well lead to people simply creating a new character every time they don't get a desirable outcome. If all the classes are evenly balanced, there should be no issue with anyone choosing the "most powerful" race and class.
